*white wlw voice* wlw colonialists and imperialists are so fucking hot! wlw who advocate for violence against nonwhite people are valid because nonwhite people are backward barbarians who invented homophobia! wlw actually stands for white-loving-white and we are VALID.
what is this even referencing cause in my experience white woo la woos are hyper obsessed with brown girls and our cultures cause they wanna seem like #allies and get some mocha ass (def racist, just never seen this brand of racist)
Oh yes that also happens! The way I conceptualize white lbpq women’s racism – as all forms of racism, to be honest – is on a sliding scale that goes from desexualization to fetishization. What I’m personally speaking of is how white lbpq women villainize people of color, blatantly ignore women of color and wlwoc in particular, and stereotype us as homophobic. In fact, a lot of white LGBT people in general seem to think that nonwhite cultures “invented” homophobia. For example, people are quick to accuse nonwhite actors of being homophobic or transphobic when they have no evidence to corroborate their claims. I remember when alt-right media writer Milo Yiannopolous went on a smear campaign against Leslie Jones and fabricated tweets to portray her as homophobic. They were fake, of course, but even white “liberals” fell for it. This post was specifically about white lbpq women in online circles and fandoms who hype up pretty objectively mediocre or even poorly written shows that may or may not have canon wlw representation but do have moderately attractive white female celebrities and queerbaited white w/w ships, such that any nonwhite male actor who plays a character that “gets in the way” of their ship will be on the receiving end of a hate campaign. This has happened to Bob Morley, who plays Bellamy Blake on The 100, and it’s happening to Rahul Kohli, who will be on Supergirl soon. And it’s happened to plenty of other nonwhite actors as well.
On the other hand is fetishization, which is as rampant as desexualization and villainization. I do see plenty of performative “I want her to step on me / beat me up / kill me” type posturing emerging from white wlw as well, and it sickens me as much as desexualization does. I know that it’s a huge problem in the overwatch fandom, apparently, and it’s a grave problem elsewhere. They will fetishize butch and trans women of color especially, or they will deliberately conceptualize women of color as more aggressive and masculine than they actually are which also throws masculine women of color under the bus and it dehumanizes all women of color in the process. Something else that’s amusing is how they will sexually fetishize different women of color as “submissive / soft / pastel”.
