I thought slavery was slavery was slavery and that despite the fact that it has been present in countless cultures all around the world, the specific differences among them didn’t matter all that much cause like…we all now agree that it’s slavery and slavery is bad. And there’s no need to qualify that or add a ‘but’.

I legit saw someone yesterday use the term “Performative wokeness” (irony) to describe the reactions that people were having to that story. Everybody!! being horrified about a lady being treated like an animal is a normal reaction lmao. This isn’t overdramatic. It’s the kind of reaction that happens when people are exposed to slave narratives.
