oceansunfire:

I know this may seem like a stretch but this Pride month I’m hoping that we discuss and navigate intracommunity tensions with rationality, with nuance, with compassion, with patience, and with understanding. I hope that we actually gain a historical understanding of our identities and of the issues we face. I hope that we place our discussions in context. I hope that we learn about each other and converse wholeheartedly about our unique experiences and our shared experiences. I hope we acknowledge the commonalities and specifics of our marginalization. Because listen, I have seen the power of solidarity in my own life. I know that it’s not just possible to achieve it – for me and my fellow LGBT people of color it is a reality, something that hasn’t been twisted by white identity politics or the way white people like to weaponize their identities and play games about who is more oppressed and who is more or less radical. It really is important to navigate issues in a proper manner. Not just that, it’s also incredibly healing. To share your thoughts and your frustrations with fellow LGBT people and have them acknowledged and taken into account is a phenomenal thing to witness.
