Colorism isn’t just a Korean issue, colorism is GLOBAL so yall pulling that “its their culture” bs can chill because in every race and ethnicity, colorism exists and darker skinned people get treated differently.

What BTS said was ignorant and harmful and nothing is gonna get done if you fools keep treating them like they’re perfect. They’re human beings like you and me and will fuck up and make plenty of mistakes. That doesn’t make them bad people who should disappear.

Preferences are fine. Preferences that perpetuate colorism? Not fine.

Whoever feels offended and disappointed have a right to be. You dont have any right telling them they are wrong and stupid. You don’t know their experiences with colorism and you just make yourself look like an insensitive bitch trying to derail and talk over people.

And you know what the funniest thing is? non-asians teaching us about our own culture like LOL! brown skinned asians know better than anyone else what its like to be brown/tan skinned while raised in a colorist environment. racism/colorism/homophobia/etc can never be part of ANY culture because these things actively alienate and harm us. they are fucked up concepts that need to be eliminated. and that starts with us recognizing it.

^^^^^^^^ SISSSS, those last two sentences!! I’m so tired of hearing how colorism/racism/homophobia and any other -isms is “just a part of Asian culture,” TUH! How the F U C K can you really tell me colorism is a part of “their culture” when it’s literally prevalent, profitable, and perpetuated all over the goddamn world???? Whitening creams and bleaching products aren’t available in my local African owned mom & pop shops because it’s “a part of East Asian culture.” My childhood friend’s Puerto Rican grandmother did not tell her darker skinned sister not to marry anybody as dark or darker than her because their kids’ complexions would be “disgraceful” because of East Asian beauty standards. This ain’t just about Koreans or even East Asians. None of these -isms aren’t rooted in any one culture besides the “culture” of white supremacy, and newsflash – ASIANS didn’t invent that shit.

People REALLY want this to be a intra-racial issue so badly so they can call any criticism of it “culturally insensitive to Koreans,” just so easily erasing the discrimination and torment of dark skinned Asians (of all regions, because y’all love to pretend all East Asians are fair!) and for what? To defend your fave’s right to capitalize off colorism? To keep your dehumanizing god complex of a couple Asian celebrities in tact??? What’s the point of purposefully being so daft and ignorant?
