All of them have been people of Color, ages 18-59.
Two trans women have been killed in the Dominican Republic, making it thirty-eight deaths since 2006. I couldn’t find any information regarding deaths of trans women in other countries.
Yesterday, June 6th, a trans sex worker named Jessica Rubi Mori was reported dead, dismembered in a landfill.
Trans women, especially trans women of color are largely ignored by the world and the LGBT+ community but without them you wouldn’t even HAVE a community, trans women of color built this movement and you fucking owe it to them to remember them, rage for them, fight for those who are still alive and afraid to exist. Who deserve to live in a world where they can walk down the street without getting shot in the head. The total deaths is likely more then what is listed here but many bodies are not found and others are misgendered by police and families.
Jamie Lee Wounded Arrow (28):Killed in her apartment in Sioux Falls, her friends said she loved helping people and spent her free time at the library.
Jojo Striker (23): Found shot in a garage in Toledo Ohio, her mother reached out to the Toledo community for help after her daughters murder.
Tiara Richmond (24): She was killed in Englewood South Chicago, two other trans women were killed on that same street in 2013.
Chyna Doll Dupree (31): A black trans women killed in New Orleans, she was a Ballroom dancer.
Ciara McElveen (26): Killed in New Orleans two days after Ms. Dupree, she worked with a homeless outreach program.
Jaquarrius Holland (18): Shot in Monroe Louisiana, she was killed within two weeks of McElveen and Dupree.
Alphonza Watson (38): Shot in Baltimore, she died at the hospital.
Chay Reed (28): Shot in Miami, her friend says Reed was: “…a light, always trying to make everyone around her happy,”
Mx Bostick (59): They were homeless at the time of their death, NYPD officials have their death listed as ‘a disagreement between neighbors’ and not a hate crime. (There are many conflicting reports regarding Bostick’s gender identity, this information was the most up to date that I found).
Sherrell Faulkner (46): Killed in Charlotte North Carolina, Faulkner’s body was found in a dumpster in November of last year and she died of her wounds in May of this year.
Kenne McFadden (27): Killed in San Antonio, Kenne McFadden was initially misgendered in her police report, she like to post videos of herself singing.
Jessica Rubi Mori:A trans sex worker, her body was found didmembered in a landfill. Please please I beg you do not go looking for more information about her, I did and found sites with pictures of her body, it’s the most horrific thing I have ever seen.
I couldn’t find any information on the other trans woman murdered in the Dominican Republic.
Do not let them be forgotten, say their names. Transgender women of color are the backbone of the LGBT community, they should be our leaders, revered as pillars of the community, instead they are killed in the streets, their bodies brutalized, these are my people, DO NOT forget them this Pride Month. They are the reason we have one.
