Can we talk about how all the “gay neighborhoods” are gentrified to hell? Or not bc muh safe spaces
Pretty much the only “queer-owned” cafe or whatever in Boston is directly linked with the gentrification of that neighborhood (Davis Square). Like this place attracts ppl (primarily lesbians/wlw) from all over Boston to this cafe and the surrounding restaurants which has been tied with rents rising over 100% in the past 10 years and the displacement of a large swath of working class population which (surprise!) also included LGBT ppl. The same owners of this cafe also own two establishments in an adjacent neighborhood (Union Square/Spring Hill) which are the most visibly nouveau riche places compared to bodegas, shuttering ethnic restaurants, and community markets. I mean overall Boston’s reputation as a gay-friendly (and rapidly queer-friendly) place in general has also indirectly caused the pushout of immigrants and POC from many neighborhoods but I guarantee you a “queer business” is the first step to a death knell of an established community
