I really had to make this post…

mochachocolatteyaya:

because benditlikegumby wants people to stop being so f***in sensitive all the time and karawaltersuniverse says that Michael Jackson’t “Black or White” video is also racist because it’s literally the same thing. So here goes.

Once upon a time ago, white people used to make advertisements that focused on “lightening” the skin, because you know, the whiter lighter you were, the more beautiful you were. This included black people and ya know what the product of choice was!?

You guessed it, soap!!! because the melanin deficient people had the caucasity to try and scrub the black off of kids and adults as if the color of their skin was something that could easily be taken off.

When wealthy white men traveled the world “discovering” things and had to be in direct contact with a black person or any POC for that matter, when they got home what was the first thing that they did?

He washed his hands!! with what you might ask? say it with me now S-O-A-P!!! cuz just like the above add states, the white man had to “lighten his burden” from the day. What was the burden you may ask? the burden of having to look at and sometimes touch a black or POC.

Fast forward to today and Dove’s commercial.

The reason black people are coming at Dove for racism is because we’ve seen this theme before, some members of the black community were alive and kicking during those times so they know first hand wtf this is. Some of them may very well still have these advertisements in their frickin possession! we’ve seen this theme over and over again and quite frankly it’s played out. As long as companies stay trying to use this theme on the low, they’re gonna continue to get called out for it.

This lesson was free and brought to you by the letters S-T-F and U for you non black people and non black POC who always got something to say about issues that don’t concern you.
