A good reason to believe in aliens: because it’s statistically improbable that our planet is the only planet in our universe with life.

Bad reason to believe in aliens: discrediting the capability and competence of ancient civilizations and their ability to build things in a practical manner.

I think a lot of this lies in people bring willfully ignorant abt the fact that a LOT of the records/“evidence” of the intelligence of ancient civilizations was destroyed through European imperialism, whose damage was particularly devastating for oral cultures (bc they killed off people who DID know) & in places where the records that did exist were conveniently compiled and periodically burned throughout history (the library of Alexandria being the most notable example of this) but instead of accepting culpability white people simply refuse to believe these records ever existed at all and just said ALIENS of all things did these amazing feats of science & architecture, and REALLY believe that.
