there’s something deeply unsettling about how much body positivity revolves around bikinis….. and yes this comes with the usual caveat that if you like bikinis then far be it from me to stop you from wearing them yadda yadda but the fact is that they were very much designed to please the male gaze, to turn women’s bodies into objects, and the idea that wearing one in a public place is an empowering act just doesn’t sit right with me. the very notion that your self-worth is determined by the amount of your body you’ll show men is so antithetical to any kind of meaningful women’s liberation movement
