it’s socially acceptable to publicly starve kids in the united states.
honestly i don’t even care if the kids parents are rich, you shouldn’t punish children for not being able to afford to eat when they have no ability or means to pay for such a thing on their own.
by withholding lunches and breakfasts over 2 dollar debts you are abusing a child. there’s no question about this. that is child abuse.
and say a parent is intentionally not paying these debts to abuse their child, the state is complicit with this abuse. the school systems are actually the means by which the parent does the abusing. under no argument can you defend this without accepting that you think child abuse is okay.
I started a petition about this, because my brother’s school was doing this, and in the state of Ky you’re TECHNICALLY not supposed to. You’re supposed to keep a tab and send it home as a bill if the student can’t pay. So to get around it, the school gave the kids who couldn’t pay peanut butter crackers instead of real food. Like they were technically still FEEDING them, but they had to straight up THROW THEIR TRAY AWAY and take the crackers at the end of the lunchline when they got to the cash register. They didn’t even take the food back. They made the kids throw it away.
I got so pissed off.
Not the kid’s fault, btw. It was almost exclusively kids who were neglected so bad their parents hadn’t filled out the paperwork for the free lunch program.
so we cannot even make the argument that schools simply cannot afford to feed these poor kids, they absolutely can, but instead of feeding these children they choose to throw their food into the garbage. There are no arguments to be made here. This is child abuse. I cannot say that enough.
America 100% has the ability and resources to feed all children (people of all ages, for that matter!)
Doesn’t America have to import a big percent of it’s food? Because if it does then no, it can’t feed 100% of it’s population
lmao no, america does not have to import a large amount of their food, 15% of all food in the usa was imported, we could completely remove all imported goods and still have enough food in the united states for the entire population.
and the nations they do import from they only import because it’s cheaper to import than to produce, which to put that into perspective it’s already cheap to produce most of this shit in the usa they just got a better deal fucking over some other nation.
You’ll see here it says we import 50% of all our FRESH fruits, but 50% of all fresh fruit in the united states is already substantial to support our population, and this does not account for 100% of fruit, the majority of the fruit in this country is canned, or preserved in some way, so if we took out that import stat we’d still have canned fruits and vegetables within the nation, that would be substantial for feeding people, on top of the 50% already being substantial enough.
and on top of NOT having to import much….america wastes about 40% of all food in country. which is already enough to feed everyone in america
Like, what do imports even have to do with it? If they eat too much imported food do they become foreign? If my household Imports all our milk from the store does that mean we have a a household milk deficit? No we buying all the milk we need, so we have enough milk.
