Your ability to do so is about to end, unless you want to pay 300$ or more a month for “high speed internet.”
The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) is reportedly planning to overturn the 2015 Open Internet Order, an Obama-era order that classified broadband internet as a public utility, subject to Title II regulations (with some exemptions). As a result of this order, internet service providers (ISPs) are forbidden from using unfair, anti-competition practices like paid prioritization and blocking and throttling. Overturning this order would undo the open internet and open the floodgates for internet “fast lanes,” as well as make it legal for ISPs to promote their own streaming services with faster internet speeds than the competition.
If you’re like me and HATE calling people (I have called congress, but I can’t do it every day) – text RESIST to 50409 to utilize the friendly resistbot, who helps you contact your reps as much as you’d like – all you have to do is text with resistbot, and he gets messages through to your reps as often as you’d like.
today is Nov. 15. the FCC, under chairman Ajit Pai, will not listen to the public despite millions of comments in support of net neutrality. They are going to try their hardest to kill net neutrality, which in turn will kill the internet, which in turn will help eradicate democracy. it won’t just affect Americans, it has the potential to affect the entire internet, something we ALL use daily. you can bet your ass other countries will see america doing this, and use it as an excuse to do it in their own countries.
this is what buying a plan without net neutrality looks like there:
you have to pay MORE for features you’re already guaranteed to have under net neutrality. and in america, you already know how expensive everything is.
democrats AND republicans both want net neutrality. advocacy groups in touch with congress have said that if your members of congress receive calls from you, they are more encouraged and more likely to take action to stop Pai’s plan to gut net neutrality. after Nov. 22, it will be MUCH HARDER to convince your member of congress.
hey guys, please reblog this version and don’t forget to call!!! if you are nervous about calling, you can use resistbot to send faxes to your reps and thestance appto pre-record your message so you won’t have to speak to anyone. (available in both google play and app store)
it’s possible for consensual sex to be unhealthy. it is possible for sex to be both consensual and bad for you. sex can manifest as a method of self harm. you do not have to feel positively about all of your sexual experiences and consensual sex does not have to be unilaterally praised and upheld. sometimes the sexual experiences we seek out are unhealthy for us, and it’s good to acknowledge that.
Meanwhile thousands of black and brown folks are being stopped in the streets, patted down and incarcerated/fined if they have weed..maaaaaaan fuck them
