Men who value virginity in women over who they are as a person and obsess over their ā€œpurityā€ are seriously the creepiest people alive. Like if you want to be theĀ ā€œfirstā€ and mark your territory so bad go pee on a fire hydrant with the rest of the dogs.Ā

Lido Pimienta Speaks Out After Racism Controversy at Halifax Pop Explosion Festival

snototter161:

During Pimienta’s show, she asked people of color to move to the front of the room and white people to move to the back – a request that is often part of her sets – when a white volunteer, reportedly there to photograph the show, along with several other white people in the audience reacted to Pimienta’s invitation to relocate ā€œbrown girls to the frontā€ of the room with overt racism.

The response on social media to this incident has been mixed. Some understood Pimienta’s view and her right as an artist to conduct her performance any way that advances her art and agenda, while others called it ā€œreverse racismā€ and countered with ā€œwhat ifs.ā€

The key issue, however, was not Pimienta’s request, but the response to it by some audience members, which the HPX festival described as ā€œaggressive and racistā€ in a lengthy apology to the artist.

Billboard: Why do you ask people of color to move to the front of the room and how long has this been part of your show?

Lido Pimienta: I started asking men specifically to go to the back of the room because in my 15+ years of attending shows, both on stage and in the audience, men make it unsafe for me to be in such spaces.

From the audience’s point of view, [men] for the most part will not think twice before they put themselves right in front of you. I am a short woman, so I always have to show up very early to be able to enjoy the music, to see the acts… From the stage point of view, I noticed how most men who plant themselves at the front, they tend to overpower ME. Their presence usually at my own show is a threatening one and I have had men grab me, grab my hands, grab my waist, scream ā€œTE AMO MAMACITA.ā€ My show is all about high energy and high feminine power, so I can see for some men, my energy reads ā€œsexualā€ and they feel like my show is FOR THEM, when in fact, my show if anything, is for WOMXN.

When I started asking womxn to the front, I noticed how white women were usually at the front and brown girls would be behind the white girls, a bit more shy, a bit more restrained. Even at HPX, I had to call out a few black girls who were ā€œtoo shockedā€ and felt I was ā€œputting them on the spotā€ by saying, ā€œGirl come to the front! This is for you!ā€ As an immigrant, as an Afro-Indigenous person, as an intersectional feminist, as a mother and all of the other signifiers that qualify me as ā€œother,ā€ I understand what it is like to not see yourself in the media, to not see yourself in institutions and to not see yourself represented or reflected at a music show, because the ā€œartist of colourā€ (and I put that in quotation marks because even that term is extremely problematic), we don’t get to see each other at that level.

THANK YOU.

I’ve seen students show up to class in their pajamas.

Also I’ve had professors curse during lectures and discussion groups.

ā€œProfessionalismā€ is relative especially in a space like college.

Cuz my professors are paying me right?

professors do not give a fuck what you wear. and if they did, what bills they paying?

Well, technically, you’re paying them, so you’re their boss.

Sometimes certain classes will require ā€œbusiness attireā€ for presentations. But other than that, y’all I wore pajamas and sweats and booty shorts and tanks with my bra showing and basically whatever else I fancied on any given day day, depending on the weather and how much sleep I was running on. And I guarantee you I was not the only one. We all did it.

Some people wear heels and cute ass outfits every day, bc shit like that was literally not allowed in high school and they’re thrilled to be able to express themselves for once. And I’d sit right next to them in my pajama pants and an old tank top after I rolled out of bed having slept less than two hours. No one batted an eye about it.

Seriously. Whatever makes you happy and comfortable.

Also on an unrelated note, you literally never have to ask to use the restroom. Just get up and go. No one cares.

Listen guys, college is a strange place where just about anything goes.
Like as long as you’re not hurting anyone and vaguely following whatever arbitrary rules your department comes up with (and you know, not breaking laws) then you’re probably fine.

I’ve seen people wear snuggles walking across campus, super dressed up in a full suit and tie, a dress in the snow, a sweatshirt and jeans in 85°, pjs in the middle of the afternoon, eclectic combinations only art kids can come up with, and kids wrapped in blankets. Literally the only thing you would get judged on MAYBE is wearing a shirt from your school’s bitterest rival, and even then it’s a maybe depending on the school.

There’s a girl i see around sometimes who skateboards to class in a pikachu onesie and a hijab and she’s honestly an icon

Enrollment for 2018 Affordable Care Act (Obamacare) starts on November 1 and ends on December 15. The current administration has cut the funds to announce when people can enroll. Please reblog and #Resist

they have also scheduled some 12-hour ā€œmaintenance sessionsā€ to occur on sundays during the enrollment period so be aware of those as well.

Also there’s one scheduled for the first night so be aware of that.

They’re basically doing everything in their power to make it as difficult as possible so young and healthy people don’t bother signing up in an effort to kill the program that way. Please don’t let that happen spread this around and sign up.

I’m reblogging this every single Fucking time I see it

I got in and got coverage for less than the current cost of my meds. Hope that holds out.

I keep getting the ā€œerrorā€ message whenever I try to apply. This happened to me last year too.
