It’s 9am, I’m eating broccoli in my underwear, and I’m to talk to you all about this week’s Shadowhunters

First and foremost, there will be spoilers. Just thought I’d warn y’all.

Anyway

Jocelyn’s death. I am ready to fight every fucking writer right now. I’ve been wanted to deck Todd Slavkin in the face for generally being an ugly human (among other things), but every single person in that writer’s room can fight me. I did not like Jocelyn’s character. Magnus was correct – she makes messes, then coerces other people to clean them for her. BUT!! I wanted to see more of her. I wanted them to really flesh out who she was. But instead, they killed her for shock value. I don’t know if I can really handle seeing the aftereffects of that (Clary and Luke grieving, Alec dealing with the trauma of brutally murdering someone), but I hope they don’t have them back to business as usual. I want to see SOMETHING, ya know?!?!?!? They owe us that much.

Moving on… Jace’s trial. I like this scene, and then I didn’t. See, I could have lived without them adding in the sibling!Clace plot line, but it’s here. It’s fucking here and I really wish it wasn’t, but it is. And I do realize that Clary and Jace had Very Heterosexual™ feelings for one another (despite what the Clizzy gaybaiting had led us to believe 💅💅💅) that aren’t gonna go away overnight, I just wished it wasn’t so damn in your face. Like… Did Victor really need to ask about Clary? Did he really have to Do That™?!?!?! I digress. I DID, however, like Jace’s answers about the Clave. See, the Clave sees anything but unwavering loyalty as treason; if you have even the tiniest of critiques, you’re working for the other side (and what does that sound like?!?!?!). Jace isn’t blindly loyal to the Clave, but he still believes that there’s some goodness there – it’s why he refused to go with Valentine. Why he saved Aldertree, despite that man doing anything and everything to make his life miserable. The danger of organizations that function like the Clave is that their objection isn’t peace or justice, it’s sovereignty. They do what they can do to maintain power. And if that means doing what’s right, then that’s whatever. But they also aren’t afraid to stick their boots on the neck of the people they consider less than (Downworlders). And that’s why Jace’s line “about the Clave’s inaction is kinda eh to me. Cause yeah, the Clave needs to Do Betta™, but at the same time, it doesn’t hurt for them to… Ya know… NOT do anything.

And finally, Magnus Bane. Magnus Fucking Bane. The only aspect of this show keeping me interested is him. Yeah, I like the other characters, but not enough to continue dealing with this shit show of a season. I love that he’s petty af. Y’all be at Raj a lil too hard sometimes, but I will forever cackle at his expense because he really thought he was bad. He really thought he could talk smack to one of the most powerful warlocks alive (and in all of recorded history). But Magnus was like, “No bitch, you gon learn some respect TUHDAY!!”. But yeah, I like that Magnus gets to express a full range of emotions. You get to see him happy. Sad. Joyous. Excited. Angry. Desperate. Seductive. The whole nine fuckin yards, fam!!! It’s great. And his scenes with Raphael and Camille damn near tore my hear out. He just… *clenched fist* Loves?!?!?!? So much?!?!?!?! And you can see how Camille really takes advantage of it, but you can also see how appreciative Raphael is. He knows how bad Camille hurt Magnus, and he respected it till it was literally life and death for him and the clan. Ugh, just so many tears!!!

Author’s note – I wrote this forever ago and intended to edit a lil bit, but time got away from me and I just stopped caring about Shadowhunters (still don’t, in fact). BUT!! Dis is in my drafts, so I figured. Why tf not.
