Colourism irks me to no end

Dark girls have always got it. ‘Hitam’, ‘Hangus’ & ‘Bangla’ were among the many things I’ve heard my friends get called

As you drive along the Malaysian highways, you’ll realize the numerous billboards promoting collagen & whitening creams. All of the female celebrities touted to be ‘the prettiest’ & ‘most beautiful’ by the media have light skin (Neelofa, Mira Filzah, Emma Maembong, to name a few). Most of the girls I know use foundation that is 2 shades lighter than their real skin tone.

The word ‘putih’ (white) is closely associated with the word ‘cantik’ (pretty). Of course, the silent colourism in most Asian societies nowadays have alot to do with history & Western occupation

Still, it annoys me to see all these beauty supplements being advertised here & there, boasting how they can instantly make your skin fairer in a week

I’ve never used my light skin to my advantage & don’t plan to. I do not support your whitening creams & supplements that has goat’s milk, pearl essence, honey, lily sweat & whatever kind of sh** you’re trying to sell. I don’t agree with your decision to make a business out of our insecurities & market it as something that we need

A girl’s job is not to satisfy your eyes. You not finding us beautiful won’t stop us from being beautiful. Take your clorox creams & shove it
