It’s so crazy how like….engrained the violence from capitalism is in society. Like so many deaths and so much pain can be linked directly back to it and it’s viewed as like…normal that is so wild
It’s all because of the capitalist idea that wealth (and therefore power) is based on merit, so people assume if you’re in a position of financial power you earned it and it’s within your rights to do whatever you want with that wealth and power. So, ironically, a lot of the people causing the most harm under capitalism see themselves as moral, and we’re taught to believe that too.
It’s how violence is justified under capitalism: If you experience it, there must be something wrong with you as an individual, and not the system we live under. That idea plays into social darwinism and helps reactionary movements. In fact arguably some of the philosophers who championed laissez faire capitalism (like Hans-Hermann Hoppe) are outright fascists. Capitalism is toxic in every way possible.
