CHIP is Still Expired

CHIP is healthcare for 9 million children. 

It is a 20 year old program, that has always had wide bipartisan support. 

It was allowed to expire on October 1st. 

The existing funding should cover through the end of the year, but the lack of action on what should be an easy vote is alarming. It has been two weeks. 

It has been two months. 

CHIP funding is Still Expired. 

Children’s healthcare centers are preparing to close. 

Last time funding needed reauthorization, it was done by April. It’s currently the end of November. 

Congress has to fix this before the end of the year. 

Congress goes on vacation on December 15th. 

They still haven’t funded CHIP.

If they don’t fund it, 9 million children are going to lose their health insurance. 

It has been 66 days. 

Criminal negligence

People who conflate the reaction to certain issues–fandom racism, fandom homophobia, fandom pedophilia, etc–with “fandom drama” “fandom negativity” and “shipping wars” are not trustworthy.

And if you portray the reactions to the former as unnecessary and irrational, doubly so.

It’s so crazy how like….engrained the violence from capitalism is in society. Like so many deaths and so much pain can be linked directly back to it and it’s viewed as like…normal that is so wild

It’s all because of the capitalist idea that wealth (and therefore power) is based on merit, so people assume if you’re in a position of financial power you earned it and it’s within your rights to do whatever you want with that wealth and power. So, ironically, a lot of the people causing the most harm under capitalism see themselves as moral, and we’re taught to believe that too.

It’s how violence is justified under capitalism: If you experience it, there must be something wrong with you as an individual, and not the system we live under. That idea plays into social darwinism and helps reactionary movements. In fact arguably some of the philosophers who championed laissez faire capitalism (like Hans-Hermann Hoppe) are outright fascists. Capitalism is toxic in every way possible.

This is what the so called “reasonable republicans” want, this isn’t the product of the Trumpian alt right nut job Know Nothing White Nationalist crowd, this is the so called “moderate republicans” plan, when people say they are “Fiscally conservative but socially liberal” what they mean is that they are ok with this shit, just as long as you don’t say you support white nationalism openly.
